A Little History

For those who aren’t familiar with the Twain Harte Meadows Park project, our community has worked together over the last few years to design a new park on a 1 acre parcel located in the center of downtown. The property was generously donated to Twain Harte CSD by a long time resident who had a dream to create a beautiful park area where family and friends could gather to relax, play and enjoy the beauty of our charming mountain community. The new park will have a mountain meadow theme and will include a large meadow, outdoor pavilion, picnic and BBQ areas, local history, water play and learning area, town Christmas tree, Me-Wuk Indian plant garden, and other great features. To learn more about the history of Twain Harte Meadows Park and the first phase, please visit our Twain Harte Meadows Park  page.

The Bocce Court Improvements serve as the core connection between Eproson Park and Twain Harte Meadows Park. New improvements include a 16’x24’ pavilion, shade pergolas at each end of the courts, expanded patio area, landscaping and a rain tank that captures water from the roof that will be utilized to water the community garden. The structures are built using large timber, creating a rustic look that complements our mountain community. Not only will these magnificent structures provide a beautiful shaded area to gather and enjoy bocce during the day, but the architectural aspects will mirror those that will be constructed in the larger Twain Harte Meadows Park, giving us a preview of what’s to come.

Phase One Progress

Our contractor began work on the Bocce Court Improvements in July and, in true Twain Harte community form, volunteers started pitching in right away. Members of the community helped sand and stain all the lumber, we couldn’t have done it without their dedication and hard work!

The pavilion and shade structures are anticipated to be completed in the month of October. Landscaping and rain tank installation will begin in November and we will hold a community workshop to help with the planting and installation. The workshop will also include some education on drought tolerant, native planting and rainwater harvesting, made possible by a water conservation grant through the Tuolumne Resource Conservation District. If you would like an opportunity to volunteer, this will be a great chance to pitch in and get your hands dirty.

Once construction is complete, we will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate with the community.  The Bocce Court Improvements will be dedicated to Twain Harte CSD late board member, Jim Johnson.

We are only able to accomplish this project due to a Sonora Area Foundation grant, a State water conservation grant and many generous donations from residents and businesses. We look forward to continuing to work with our community to complete Twain Harte Meadows Park, enhancing the beauty and charm of Twain Harte and drawing friends and family together for generations. We are so proud to serve this community.

We maintain an email list of community members who want to be involved and stay informed about the development process. If you would like to be added to the list, please email us at:
