TWAIN HARTE, CA:  After years of dreaming and planning, Twain Harte Community Services District (THCSD) is delighted to announce that Twain Harte Meadows Park (Meadows Park) is taking shape on the ground. A construction contract for the $2.6 million grant-funded project was awarded to local contractor Njirich and Sons, Inc. in July 2023 and construction is set to begin this week with an estimated completion date of early fall 2024.

THCSD’s General Manager, Tom Trott, expressed his enthusiasm stating, “We are extremely excited to start construction. From the time our community began dreaming about the park five years ago, we’ve all been staring at a dilapidated downtown lot trying our best to envision its transformation into a beautiful mountain meadow park. Now we get to see it take shape before our eyes.”

The five-year journey to get Meadows Park to this point has been a challenging and rewarding one, filled with community participation and diligence from THCSD staff. It began in 2017 when a generous resident donated a 1-acre downtown parcel to THCSD for the purpose of creating a park where families and friends could gather to enjoy Twain Harte’s unique mountain beauty. The donation kicked off two years of community design workshops that allowed hundreds of residents to work together to develop a conceptual design that best reflected their community.

With a final conceptual design complete, the only thing keeping the dream from becoming reality was the financial resources to build it. After three years of working to obtain grants, THCSD was awarded two highly competitive grants from the State Department of Parks and Recreation (Proposition 68) and State Water Resources Control Board (Proposition 1) that fully funded the $2.6 million Meadows Park project.

Board President, Eileen Mannix, proudly shared her thoughts on this achievement, stating:

“Breaking ground on Twain Harte Meadows Park is a milestone that we could not be more proud of. On behalf of the board, I would like to thank our hardworking staff for their dedication, our GM Tom Trott for his tireless efforts to secure the grants, and our community for all of their unwavering support.”

Meadows Park will perfectly complement Twain Harte’s rustic, mountain charm with a natural meadow feel and will provide an aesthetic reminder of why people choose to live in and visit Twain Harte. Its recreation features will be chalk-full of local history and interactive education to remind future generations of the town’s rich cultural background. Some of the Park’s features include:

  • Open Space Mountain Meadow
  • Large, Rustic Outdoor Pavilion
  • Water Play Area
  • Picnic and Barbecue Areas
  • Town Christmas Tree
  • Outdoor Education/Discovery Labs

THCSD will celebrate this Meadows Park milestone with a groundbreaking ceremony on September 14, 2023 at 9:00 AM at the project site located next to Eproson Park. The community is invited to attend the event, joining THCSD’s board and staff as a key project contributor. According to Trott, “This milestone is not only a THCSD achievement, it’s a community achievement. We are so proud to belong to a community filled with residents who genuinely love Twain Harte and willingly give of themselves for its good. Twain Harte Meadows Park would not be a reality without you.”
