THCSD is authorized to acquire, construct, improve, maintain, and operate hydroelectric power generating facilities and transmission lines, consistent with the district's water supply and waste water operations. The power generated shall be used for district purposes, or sold to a public utility or another public agency that generates,
uses, or sells electrical power. THCSD is not allowed to acquire hydroelectric power generating facilities unless the facilities' owner agrees.
 

THCSD currently owns a 27KW hydroelectric generator on Shadybrook Reservoir.  Water from the TUD ditch system is used to operate the hydroelectric generator.  Although the generator has been off line for many years, as of 2006. the District is considering upgrading and operating the hydroelectric facility to offset the rising costs of providing all services.
