THCSD BOARD OF DIRECTORS Meeting of February 14, 2008 GENERAL MANAGER’S REPORT
Staffing: We have been notified that our Water Treatment Operator II, Lise Lemonier, will be leaving us. She has accepted a full time position with TUD as their Regulatory Compliance Officer. Lise will continue to work weekends for us. Scott Hastings was offered the vacated Operator II position and has accepted. Scott will do a great job in that position. We have offered the Operator I position to Michael Schopfer and he has also accepted. Michael was interviewed for the Operator I position last spring. He was a very strong candidate and we look forward to welcoming him aboard as part of our team. Planning: Last month I attended a presentation regarding Tuolumne County Regional Blueprint Planning. The County received a CalTrans grant to complete this first stage of planning and now they are applying for additional funding. Completion of a regional Blueprint is essential to the County being competitive as various other grant opportunities become available. All Blueprint Planning uses GIS models. The county is using an urban growth model (called UPlan) that was made available to them at no charge. They are also receiving technical assistance from UC Davis at no cost. As a water and sewer utility, we may be asked to write a letter of support to accompany their grant request. Water and sewer utilities are a large factor in forecasting attractions or distractions to growth, which is an essential element in creating their plan. Water & Sewer: The obstruction in our sewer main on Fuller Drive has been removed thanks in a very large part to our field staff, Scott Hastings and Frank Montelongo. “Butch” Rice, a co-owner of the property was also extremely cooperative and helpful in correcting this problem, before it became a real nightmare. Park and Recreation: I have been in contact with Bruce Halverson in Gig Harbor, Washington. Bruce is a Park and Recreation consultant working with Rhino Ramps. Bruce has ordered the material and will schedule a time to replace the deteriorated surface on the quarter pipe at our Skate Board Park. We have received grant funds from Skate Park Maintenance Fund at the Sonora Area Foundation to pay for the resurfacing. The total cost will be approximately $2,000. I have also been working with Eric Aiken from the Tuolumne County Recreation Department. He has advised me that the grant re-scoping package has been sent to Craig Pedro for his signature and then it will be on its way to the State. I have asked Eric to keep me informed of the progress and he assured me that he would. Water Supply: Water supplies are looking good so far for this year. The latest snow survey showed 123% of normal for this time of year.
Respectfully submitted, General Manager Mikeal T. Stacher |
